The influence of light-source bandwidth, gas temperature, water vapor content and other gas components on the chlorine utilization measured by UV absorptiometry was experimentally and theoretically studied in detail. For a well designed experimental setup, the relative error for the chlorine utilization measurement was about ±2%, which mainlv caused by the noise of the photomultiplier (PMT). On the basis of error analysis, a method to further decrease the measuring error and also extend the measuring range of chlorine utilization was proposed. This study will be helpful for the accurate chlorine utiliza- tion measurement in the singlet oxygen generator (SOG) for a chemical oxygen iodine laser (COIL) system..

It is found that the M^2 factor of nonparaxial truncated ChG beams depends not only on the truncation parameter δ, decentered parameter α, but also on the initial waistwidth to wavelength ratio ωo/λ. M^2 may be less than one when d is small enough. As δ→0, the far-field divergence angle approaches an asymptotic value of θmax = 63.435°. For the special cases of α = 0(Ω0 = 0) and δ→∞ our results reduce to the M^2 of nonparaxial truncated Gaussian beams and nonparaxial untruncated ChG beams, respectively.

The 5P3/2 state atom density was measured bv the absorption of line from a Rb hollow-cathode lamp. The excited atom density is combined with measured fluorescence ratio to determine collisional cross section for the energy pooling process [i.e. Rb(5P3/2)+Rb(5P3/2)→Rb(5D)+Rb(5S)]. The cross section is (5.0+1.9)×10^-14cm^2. Cross section for 5P3/2 →5P1/2 transfer in Rb, induced in collision with ground-state Rb atoms, has been determined using methods of atomic fluorescence. The resulting fluorescence included a direct component arising from the optically excited state and a sensitized component due to the collisionally populated fine-structure state and the energy-pooling collisions. Measurement of relative intensities of the two components yielded the following cross section: σ (5P3/2 →5P1/2)=(3.0+0.9) ×10^-15cm^2. it is found that the rate for the energy pooling is an order of magnitude more efficient than 5P3/2→5P1/2 mixture. Both finite-difference time-domain simulations and equi-frequency contour plots in the first Brillouin zone are used to demonstrate how such a polarization splitter work. Basically, these phenomena are resulted from the different dispersion properties of two-dimensional photonic crystals for TE and TM polarization. And thus such a structure can be employed as polarization splitters for integrated optical and microwave components.

The influences of the initial parameters of the system on the atomic information entropy squeezing are presented. It is shown that the squeezed component number, depth and squeezed direction of the information entropy squeezing can be controlled by choosing atomic distribution angle, the relative phase between the two-mode field and the different of the average photon number of the two field modes, respectively. It is also shown that quantum information entropy is a remarkable precision measure for the atomic squeezing.

Band offsets at semiconductor heterojunctions are fundamental parameters which govern the transport properties to miroelectronic devices. Recent theoretical and experimental results have focused attention on the thin Si interlayers at GaAs/AlAs heterojunctions in determining heterojunction band discontinuities. Both the presence of Si interlayer and GaAs at different growth temperature probably bring crystal defect into GaAs/Si/AlAs, which lead to bad quality of GaAs/Si/AlAs heterojunctions and influence the technical applications of heterojunctions in practice. GaAs/Si/AlAs heterojunctions prepared by MBE are examined. The influence of 0.5 ML Si interlayer and GaAs at different growth temperature on GaAs/AlAs are investigated by DLTS technique. The results reveal that the Si interlayer has little influence on the crystal, whereas the lower growth temperature for GaAs is, the more deep level defects occur in the crystal.
