Helmet-mounted display (HMD) is of great help to pilots of fighter. With the information supplied by IR sensor, the situation awareness of pilots can be increased greatly. Adverse weather and night will no longer be obstacles to air combat with the IR image supplied by HMD. The history and critical technologies of HMD are described. Current problems of military HMD and corresponding solutions are given. Design-related problems are also discussed
